Wedding reuse project #2! (First one was the floating book shelves - check out the tutorial here!) With all this extra chiffon fabric laying around, we had to find a use for it. I had always wanted a canopy bed - plus we had an in-home shoot coming up - so our next project was born!

If you are anything like us, you hate it when things go to waste. Decorations from the various events we host always end up pilling up in the corner until we find someone to give them to. After our wedding, we had over 40 vintage books lining our bookshelves, in the coffee table shelf, on the corner shelf, in the cupboard, you get the idea.
So because we were lacking storage space and wanted to display some of our books we decided to redecorate this weekend and create these invisible books shelves!

After receiving these beautiful square prints from Parabo Press, I had to find a way to display them all. So I rummaged through all of our leftover wedding decor, and found this large frame that we had used for our welcome sign. Time to recycle! When advent calendars are too expensive and not that cute, you go with a DIY one! Inspired by the talented creators at The Merry Thought, I loved their advent calendars and decided to combine the two - this one and this one. All credit goes to these brilliant creatives!
I've always loved these canvas banners, but couldn't figure out a good way to transfer a design onto the canvas without the right kind of printer. After looking at a few tutorials, I finally found an easy way to transfer a design - without any special printing (besides a laserjet)!
As we prepare for our housewarming party this Sunday, we wanted to make menus for what we would be serving. We loved the look of white handwriting on glass that we had done for our wedding, so recreated it in a menu form using dollar store frames!
One of the first crafts we ever made were pallet coasters made from stained popsicle sticks. They matched perfectly with another one of our favorite crafts - a dark stained crate table. But as our tastes changed (as you may have noticed), we decided that it was time to revamp our coasters to better match our new minimalist style. Marble and gold have been our two go-two textures, so we used materials we already had from other projects to make these coasters!
We collect cards at craft fairs and stores everywhere we go. From our favorite local artist at Le Petit Elefant to the seasonal Renegade Craft Fairs, we love bringing back a small token that's usually between $3-5, even if we can't afford anything else that we like at the fairs. With all our cards, we wanted to display them without having to find frames for all of them, as they all are varying in size. So we ended up with this!
We've always loved geometric shelves, but found them extremely expensive ($130 at Target!) So when we found this set of hexagonal wooden shelves in a set on clearance at Michael's for $3, we had to grab them!
Home Sweet Home (taken with a camera stacked on books because we lost a part of our tripod)
Whenever people ask us, "What's the best part of being married?" the simultaneous answer is "Having our own place." Having lived with many roommates over the years throughout college, we were so excited to finally have a place of our own. We had collected decor and furniture over the years, and quickly put them to use in our new apartment. As San Jose rent prices go, we had limited options with our budget. But we were so lucky to find a place that we fell in love with - which we didn't think was possible in the skyrocketing housing market. It was a 1-bedroom apartment near Japantown, with the sweetest, most awesome landlady we had ever met. She moved the monthly neighborhood party for us before we even decided to sign the lease, surprised us with a gift basket, and even picked up our packages and brought them inside our apartment when we were on our honeymoon. Not to mention our amazing maintenance guy, who picks up donuts and bagels for the complex every Friday morning, lets us use the basement for our woodworking projects, and helped us mount our TV to the wall. But the true highlight of our place was the concrete walls in the living room, bedroom, and closet. We immediately saw the potential for photoshoots and home decor - which served us well for the getting ready photos of our wedding. |
