DIY Kitchen Organizer

8/14/2015

Picture
Materials:
Organizer
  • Wire frame, shelves, and S hooks ($1.50 each at Daiso, you can find similar ones by searching for "Gridwall")
  • Faux leaves ($5 at Michaels)
  • Krylon Champagne Nouveau spray paint ($10 at Walmart)
  • Nails
Containers
  • Glass bottles ($6/each at Michaels)
  • Chalkboard spray ($3 at Amazon)
  • Bottle pour spouts ($3 at The Container Store)
  • Jars with chalkboard labels (Michaels)
  • Wooden spoons  ($1.50 each at Daiso)
  • Paint or nail polish for spoons
While many of the materials are available at multiple stores (Amazon, Walmart, Michaels), we highly suggest getting most of them from Michaels! Look for coupons that are almost always available. We used multiple 40% one item coupons to cut down the cost!

Instructions:
Organizer
  1. Spray paint wire frame, shelves, and S hooks. Let dry.
  2. Hang shelves as desired on frame.
  3. Weave leaves throughout the frame.
  4. Customize as needed!

Containers
  1. Use masking tape to create a stencil of a label on each bottle. The best way to do this is to tape a rectangle, then cut round corners and tape those on. Once finished taping around the label, wrap paper around the rest of the bottle to save having to tape the entire bottle.
  2. Spray chalkboard paint on each bottle. Let dry. If needed, spray a second coat. Take masking tape off when dry.

Spoons
  1. Put masking tape on the spoon handles as a stencil. Use nail polish to paint the tips of the spoons.
  2. Paint a gold line after nail polish is dry.
  3. Paint over entire handle with clear nail polish.

Living in an apartment with three other roommates, kitchen cabinet space can sometimes be limited. We decided it was high time to make a hanging kitchen organizer, making use of the unused wall space while allowing for easier access to the cooking tools and materials. One of the most difficult parts was finding a spout that worked with our jars in order to make them oil dispensers. Luckily, after searching high and low, we found a set of 3 dispensers for only $3 at The Container Store! Money well spent.

Any suggestions for other places to find the wire frames or shelves?

Or, under what name on Daiso you search for them? Having a hard time finding them...

Thanks!

They are here: http://www.daisojapan.com/c-340-organizing-boxes-cases.aspx.

You can see that they have various wire basket sizes and shapes, but I believe you can only buy them wholesale online. I bought them at a local store. You might try asking a local hardware store if you don't have a Daiso near you - I found similar ones here: http://www.kitchenworksinc.com/Large-White-Wire-Grid__914492.aspx?gclid=CJzKrZ6V5McCFYlafgodTuAKuw and here: http://www.gridwall.com/basketshelves.htm. It might help to google "Gridwall Wire." Good luck! Feel free to let us know if you have any other questions.

No problem! Glad you found it! You can find more of our projects in the crafts tab and a select few have been featured on https://craftgawker.com as well!
